Maddie Yuille (b. 1988) is a visual artist based in London. Since graduating with an MA in Fine Art from City and Guilds of London Art School (2019), she has been shortlisted for the Contemporary British Painting Prize (2019), the Ashurst Emerging Artist Award (2020), and the Ingram Prize (2021), and has undertaken a number of residencies, including the Incubating Residency at Pictorum Gallery (2022-2023), the San Moritz Art Academy Residency (2022), and the Elephant Digital Residency (2021).

Yuille’s work is concerned with our relationship to the more-than-human world and to each other. She strives to use paint to depict a sense of embodiment - the sensorial experience of being in natural spaces. Her palette allows for the conjuring of a world filled with vegetal life, the same earthy colours making up the bodies of the human figures. The figures depicted are often interacting with others, sharing moments of intimacy, exchange and touch. Yuille combines oil paint, acrylic paint and pastel to create works that vary in texture and marks, creating works with a vital sense of growth. Recently, she has begun making abstract landscapes, which draw upon colours and shapes from nature to create instinctive paintings that playfully explore mark-making and colour.
